THE SCREEN PRINTING PROCESS
ARTWORK PREP
FILM OUTPUT
SCREEN EXPOSED
After final approval of your artwork, it is prepped on the computer by separating the colors and adding registration marks so that each color can be lined up easily on the press.
We then print each color out in black ink onto a piece of film that will be placed onto a screen to be exposed. Each color is placed on it's own screen in the exact location of the other colors.
In this step the screen is placed in an exposure unit where bright light exposes the image into the emulsion. The screen is then sprayed with water and the result is a stencil that will allow ink to pass through the screen.
THE PRINT
THE FLASH
THE FINISHED PRODUCT
The screen is set up on the press and the ink color is placed in the screen. Now the squeegee is pulled to push the ink onto the shirt. Pressure, angle, and speed are all used to lay the appropriate amount of ink onto the shirt.
On multicolor designs or ink colors that are light on dark items, there is a flash that dries the color that was printed while still leaving it on the press to print over again or to print the next color of the design.
When the shirt has all the colors on it and looks like the final print should, it is pulled off of the press and placed onto a conveyor dryer where it gets cured at the appropriate temperature for the item. After the shirt comes out of the dryer it is officially ready to wear.
